Hanne Mikkonen, Senior economist gave the Finnish Technology Industry outlook. Technology Industry is the largest industry both in terms of export and added value. Its share of national income of GDP is 29 % and its added GDP value is over 80 billion EUR. Direct impact on employment is 330 000 persons. With indirectly linked effects more than 700 000 employees are involved. Total technology investments count for 8 billion. Technology Industry is also the largest product and services developer having annual activity of 65 % of all private R&D. Technology Industry in Finland pays total tax revenues for 23 billion EUR. Good news - resilient economy • Overall, the global economy has so far weathered the trade and geopolitical uncertainty better than expected. • New orders and order books in the Finnish technology industry have strengthened in recent months. Bad news – risks are high • Record-high uncertainty is overshadowing the emerging recovery. While improved order intake provides a positive outlook for this year, we must also prepare for turbulent times in terms of demand and the broader economy. Each week that the war in Iran continues increases the risks of economic deterioration. The most significant risk is prolonged inflation → rising interest rates → postponed investments → declining demand. Overview of Estonian economy and industry, Raul Kirsimäe, Head of Public Sector and Manufacturing Department, Swedbank A review of Estonian Economic situation was given by Mr Raul Kirsimäe. After regaining the independence, the Estonian manufacturing industry has grown very fast. Today’s economic growth is nearing the average growth of the other EU member states but is still over the average. Finland is the main trade partner of Estonia. The two countries have well integrated production chains which benefit and grow together. KUVA 19. Ambassador Vesa Vasara opened the Finnish-Estonian Industry seminar. FIG. 21. Positive development in Finnish industry orderbooks are shadowed by rising inflation and delay of investments, Iran war being the main driver for inflation.
