9.7 INCLINED SCREW CONNECTION A canopy over the entrance of a one family house is planned to be supported to the external wall by a 51x200 mm LVL 48 P ledger beam. The beam is connected with inclined screws in 45° angle to the edges of 51mm thick LVL 32 P wall studs which have spacing s = 600 mm. Line load from own weight gk is 0,3 kN/m and imposed load from snow qk is 3,5 kN/m. Service class SC2. Loading combinations The most critical ultimate limit state (ULS) load combination for each connection between the beam and stud: Ed,ULS = s ∙ (γG ∙ gk + γQ ∙ qk) Ed,ULS = 0,6m ∙ (1,15 ∙ 0,3 kN/m + 1,5 ∙ 3,5 kN/m) = 3,4 kN Note: Safety factors γG and γQ are according to Finnish National annex of Eurocode 0. Screw properties Size 6,0x140mm full threaded screw Threaded length lg = 123 mm Unthreaded length lu = 17 mm Head diameter dh = 12 mm Tensile strength ttens,k = 10 kN, determined in accordance with EN 14592. Head pull-through strength fhead,k = 13 N/mm2, when ρ a = 350 kg/m3 Modification factor kmod for medium-term load, SC2 = 0,8 Material safety factor γm for connections (default value in EC5) =1,3 9.
